Wastelands Silks, Two Takes

•August 20, 2008 • 4 Comments

[God, I suck at titling posts.]

I love silks, apologetically.   I really have no occasion to wear them, but that doesn’t stop me from prancing around in them at every opportunity.  Really, what’s the point of a virtual paperdoll, if you can’t don a skimpy dancing costume and bellydance around in your skybox?  None, so there.

Of course, silks of the string-and-scrap-of-fabric variety don’t hold any appeal for me.  Like all my clothing, I look for something with an unusual twist, and the new Rust Shaman set from Dark Eden fits that description perfectly.

100% prim silks are always a marvel to me.  Most of the time they can be a complete pain in the ass to fit, but these worked surprisingly well out of the box.  (Helped along by the thoughtful inclusion of small and large sizes for the main pieces.)  I’m not a delicate kind of girl, and this isn’t a delicate set of silks.  Rough, torn fabric is held in place by rusty bits of wire, cogs, and other scraps of salvage.  The subtle pentagram theme also gives it a nice esoteric kinda feeling.

And just FYI:  I did, in fact, photoshop my nipples out of the sheer top.  Because.  Well, I don’t know you that well yet.  Buy me dinner first, then we’ll talk. :p

I usually end up piecing together elements of my favorite silks to include in a more traditional outfit, so I decided to show you an example of how I incorporated these into a street look.

Voila!  With just a slight bit of modding, the loincloth becomes a belt!

Outfit details after the cut.

Kami.

*keys iPhone*

(Maddy! I just got in. You weren’t kidding about panic deadline. “Cept it’s a different deadline. The Suntory shoot is on the shelf for a coupla days. Now Yoshi is talking about Kami and Vogue. What’s up with that??? Did you know about this?)

“Chill babe. Yoshi called me while you were still in the air. Nonko Ramankan, one of Japan’s most illustrious designers has released a new art kimono, “Dessart2″

(But Yoshi is babbling, I mean BABBLING about Kami this and Kami that. What is he talking about?)

“Kami is Japanese for spirit, or ghost. He want’s you to project…um… ghostly spiritual qualities. Think of it as being like an angel. Oh and project with “intensity”, he loves intensity. Did I mention that this one is quadruple rate?”

(Quad rate? I can be intense for that! Though you know I’m no angel. *giggles*)

“yes doll, that little fact is at least semi-widely known by now.”

(But get this, they don’t want to shoot in the studio. Yoshi want’s me on the very tip top of the Midtown Tower!!! I’ll freeze!)

“Oh but sweetie, that makes total sense. That tower is the tallest in Tokyo. Yoshi is making a statement here. And it is also the home of the Suntory Museum of Art, AND the SMA is currently hosting an exhibition of Kimono’s called “Kosode: Haute Couture Kimonos of the Edo Period.” This will be a huge splash for you!.”

(*mutters under breath* It’ll be a splash allright if I fall off the tower.)

*iPhone battery dies*

(Damn it’s cold up here! I could really use a doubleshot latte.)

Strange Citizen: Fifi Noel

•August 17, 2008 • 7 Comments

[Meep!  Sorry so long without a post.  Work has been whoopin' my ass lately, but hopefully that's about to change.]

Everyone probably has at least one person like Fifi on their Friends List.  Well not actually like Fifi, because Fifi is a special and unique, beautiful snowflake. I mean one of those people.  You know, the one that you can’t wait for her to rez so you can see what she’s wearing and start frantically inspecting all of her prims?

>.>

… not that I run out and immediately buy the things I see Fifi wearing…

<.<

…OK, I do.  But come on! Just LOOK at her:

Can you really blame me?

I think not.

You, too, can discover the secrets of the Fifers.  Just follow the cut…

But I’m big in Japan…

•August 13, 2008 • 13 Comments

…my agent tells me.

“Exciting news Sweetie! Something’s flamed on the Suntory shoot in Tokyo and they need you there yesterday! Can you be at YVR in….um….forty minutes?”

(Oh that’s just GREAT! *rolls eyes* Naomi’s hit someone again.)

“I’ll courier the tickets to the airport for you, it’s the 1640 to Narita. When you arrive tell the Limo to take you into Meguro. You’ll be staying at The Claska. You are writing all this down aren’t you dear?”

(*groans* If I hadn’t just woken up to the phone ringing and had my own personal assistant/slave I would be, yes.)

“Yoshi is going to want to start shooting as soon as you get into town, so you need to be looking fresh when you get there. They are on panic deadline. And don’t forget your cutlets this time.”

(ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME?? The jetlag is going to be brutal!)

“Did I mention this one’s triple rate?”

(…erm…I’ll be out the door in 15.)

“And you will stay away from that Prada-Meinhoff gang this time, won’t you doll? That isn’t an escapade we want to repeat. You have no Idea what it cost to get those pics out of their clutches.”

(It wasn’t my fau…*bites lip*. *sulky voice* oK!)

(It’s a good thing I keep a standby travel pack ready for scrambles like these.)

(Damn, I could use a latte!)

(*sigh* Better not. Can I go back to sleep now?)

Robots, Hell Yeah!

•August 10, 2008 • 6 Comments

[Apologies for the double post.  I screwed up how it got picked up by the feeds.  Mea Culpa.]

This adorable robot avatar has been sitting in my inventory a week now, and I’ve been putting off posting about it because I wanted to mod it up and Mourna-fy it before I showed it to you.  But I can see now that stupid real life (SHAKE FIST!) is going to keep me from getting to this for a bit more, and I just couldn’t wait any longer.

Allow me to introduce you to the new F-Type Robot from Eclectic Randomness.  She’s a diminutive little thing, only 1.5 meters tall.  But every square inch is packed with absolute perfection.  You won’t believe how smoothly it works with all of your own poses and dances.

And AS IF it weren’t cute as a little metallic button right out of the box, this bot is also a modder’s dream come true.  Every component is copy/mod, and built with the customizer in mind.  The lips, for example, are a separate sculpted prim than the head, so you can tint them independently.  She is sold with two hairs included, so you can achieve robotic perfection from the get-go.  But if you’re as inclined to putting your personal stamp on things as I am, Winter also sells 6 individual hair add-ons at a very reasonable per-unit price. Her hairs utilize a unique “coloring prim” technology, which makes recoloring an absolute breeze.  I restrained myself to only 4 for the time being.  I’m sure I’ll grab the others later.

There is also a jetpack (with optional flight-assist) add-on… You heard me, JET PACK! And word is that more additions are coming, like a neko pack.

And those of the male persuasion fret not, for Winter says that an “M” type bot is in the works.

The Fabulous Freak…

•August 6, 2008 • 4 Comments

“Outside
The circus gathering
Moved silently along the rainswept boulevard.
The procession moved on the shouting is over
The fabulous freaks are leaving town.

They are driven by a strange desire
Unseen by the human eye.
The carnival is over.”

-Dead Can Dance

Sometimes an outfit takes a few days of wandering-around-in before it fully comes together, and this is one of those.  I’m pleased with the sleek silhouette of the pants, topped by the volumes of silky cloth above.

Allow me to squee for a moment about the new hair at Kyoot Army.  The piece I’m wearing is a combined hood and hair, so it’s harder to see the artistry of the hair itself.  But I urge you to stop by, if you haven’t already, and see Saeya Nyanda’s new releases.  The construction is creative and fun, and I’m quite eager to see what else she comes out with in the area of skull adornments.

Let me also take a moment to love on Tya Fallingbridge of PixelMode.  The boots I’m wearing are custom-made by Tya for the spoiled brats over at SLUniverse forums, and I LURVES them to pieces. <3

This ensemble is composed of bits and pieces from quite a few different outfits.  Follow the cut to find out more…

(PS:  Thankyouthankyou Siyu for reminding me about Munchflower’s Pierrot line of skins!  I don’t have much occasion to wear them, so I kind of forgot they existed.  But this set wasn’t complete without it.)

Knitted Perfection @ Cubic Effect

•August 4, 2008 • 2 Comments

I promised you more Cubic Effect soon, and here it is.

It may not be a new release, but this yummy sweater is still deserving of my attention.  It’s a slinky but comfy knitted number, with big floppy pockets and a nice scrunchy hood and collar.  As always with Cubic Effect, the sculpted prims are perfection.

This sweater is long enough that I’ve worn it solo,  to show off the new Animosity boots from Sinistyle.  But it could be paired with slim pants for a completely different look.

Just a warning:  the boots are no-mod, but they do have a good resizing script in them.

I made you some SLurls, but the cut eated them.

What A Pretty Nightmare

•August 2, 2008 • 8 Comments

I’m listening to Switchblade Symphony while I write up this post.  It seems appropriate, no?

I love a prim skirt with a different kind of shape, so it was a treat for me to find the Nightmare Skirt at +Susie+.  It’s a dark little layer-cake of batty, pointy, lacy, bechained, gothic delight.  The creator was also nice enough to include the skirt/belt combo both together and separate, which works well for both fitting such a complicated item, and implementing it into different ensembles.

The blazer is another of my staple wardrope pieces, a sculpted-collar men’s blazer from PixelDolls.  This coat was one of the first clothing items I bought which utilized sculpted prims, but it remains one my favorites to this day.

As night follows the day, so the SLurls follow the cut…

It’s Summer. Where’s my ice?

•July 30, 2008 • 8 Comments

So here I am, all set to host a lovely summer afternoon Sushi and Salmon party on the patio for the Ladies Who Lunch Bitch. My guests have arrived. I’m wearing my coolest summer outfit, but I’m starting to sweat, they are starting to melt, and the Sushi is starting to………….move of it’s own accord. The ice has not arrived. Time to call The Acme Ice Company.

*ring ring

Why hello Mr. Coyote, how nice of you to ask! No, the ice has most definitely not arrived. Yes, it is a shame. Actually, it is more than a shame. It is potentially tragic. I might never eat lunch in this town again.

I’m hearing words, Mr Coyote, but I’m not hearing solutions. No Mr. Coyote, while I do sympathize, I really do, I am not in the mood to hear about your disputes with Mr. Runner. Dynamite you say? How awful for you!

(do you believe this?)

Well, thank you again Mr. Coyote, it has been…interesting dealing with you. I do hope your delivery vehicle is back on the road soon, but in the meantime I will have to make other arrangements. *click

Well Ladies, It appears Sushi is off. Who would like a yummy hot dog?

(More pics, details, and hot dogs after the cut.)
